Re: Atomic Secured LInux support for Amazon EC2

Hi I'm not sure if me reporting this to Amazon is going to make them go back to using mkinitrd or get us any closer to ASL being compatible with Amazon Linux again. Is there anything that my client can do for now, or is better for them to request a refund for now and see if it can be made to work in...

Re: Atomic Secured LInux support for Amazon EC2

Hi Just a quick update to my previous post... It looks from the Amazon Linux release notes, that they have obsoleted mkinitrd in favour of dracut: http://www.ramoonus.nl/2011/10/15/amazon-linux-ami-2011-09-released/ Is there a way that ASL can support dracut instead? I have to say, I'm not really fa...

Re: Atomic Secured LInux support for Amazon EC2

Hi Scott Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it seems really odd. But for now, even if we can't get the hardened ASL kernel in place straightaway, it would be great to persevere with the install and see if it gets anywhere. I've done the "touch / skipkernel" and re-run the installer. That then see...

Atomic Secured LInux support for Amazon EC2

Hi One of my clients recently paid for ASL on my recommendation. They've got a brand new EC2 instance they're running it on. It's running Amazon Linux, which I think is a supported configuration for ASL. On the first install, the ASL installer bombs out (when updating RPM packages), saying Error: Pa...

Re: Plesk repository

Thanks for the info! Yeah, it's an older server with a few domains on, so I was trying to get it all the way to Fedora 11 --- but the only way to safely do this seems to be release-by-release. And I can't upgrade from Fedora 6 to Fedora 7 without first removing the Plesk rpms... so it's a bit of a v...

Re: Plesk repository

Thanks Scott! I'm on Plesk 9.2 and Fedora 6 (wanting to upgrade to Fedora 7, which is why I need the Plesk repo). Plesk yum repo file is now blank after running the installer. Installer gives message about only supporting Centos, on Plesk 9, so I guess I'm out of luck! I don't suppose there are any ...

Plesk repository

Hi Is the Plesk respository still maintained? At the moment, it is just showing a README file with a link to the AtomicRocketTurtle installer (which is different from the Plesk repository). Also, the search on this forum gives me the following error when I search for the words <plesk repository>: Th...

chattr and append-only log files

Hi everyone, Just got a quick question. I'd like to make my log files append-only. The main reason is so that they can't be overwritten but only appended to. For example, if the server was compromised, the logs couldn't easily be modified to cover the attackers' tracks. The plan is to just use this ...

ossec-hids error no longer starting

Hi After using ASL succesfully for quite a while, the following error as suddenly started happening, both when ossec-hids is automatically restarted, and when I manually restart it. Does anybody have any idea how this can be fixed? Doing an asl -u shows everything is up to date, and also yum update ...

Hey guys Thanks for the help! In the end 1and1 were actually incredibly helpful (this is in fact the first time they've ever been helpful) and uploaded a new key for me. Something had gone wrong in the Plesk update somewhere I think, but I'll never know where! Thanks for the advice on keys though - ...

Plesk license key woes

Hey everyone! I reimaged my 1and1 server today. When it came back up, I installed asl 2. I then went through and upgraded Plesk version-by-version, from 8.0 through 8.2. Everything went swimmingly. When I came to add domains, I realised there was no license key in Plesk, except for the default (whic...

Thanks for all the help. It turned out to be a dogey sshd_config in the end ... and so that cron trick worked brilliantly - I just copied in a new sshd_config using a cron command... all fine and dandy!
Cheers
