What to do with DAG and RPMFORGE???
I have recently installed some streaming video stuff on my server...FFmpeg, and FFMpeg-php...these required some other repositories for specific files..now when I use yum update...I get multiple listings from these two repositories... Should I use their updates for clamav, perl and other common stuf...

Re: plesk mysql databases...
Yes, possibly not the core issue for my problems with the plesk backups and restore failures... the plesk people threw this at me when I queried about consistent lack of restores with the databases...so, they were implying the possibility of imported databases not working or something like that... T...

Re: my.cnf help !
from my experience with mysqltuner...when it says > 32mb...this means reduce the value, then run for 24 hrs and reevaluate. Keep adjusting till you no longer get a message about a value.... e.g. for your results you might adjust temp_table_size to be equal to max_heap_table size...as advised...your ...

plesk mysql databases...
This is a new server default installation from 1and1...plesk 9.3...the restore functions do not replace the databases...plesk forum response from them refers the latin to utf8 conversion possibility keys in Latin1 in Joomla databases which will be incorrectly converted to UTF8, Yet upon inspection I...

plesk backup/restore not work--any alternatives?
I just cannot get reliable results from the 9.3 backup/restore to remote ftp repository...seems many others have similar probs (look at their forum), yet seems like plesk ignoring these chronic issues...
Could anyone suggest a workable alternative for backups that I might implement?

Re: nameserver help & best practices
Thanks for the suggestion brucelee...I checked and it is not there... Please refer to the post above where I have placed the "before" and "after" results of some tests... It is very clear that the IPv6 being enabled on my server was really slowing DNS resolves down, plus I was ge...

Re: nameserver help & best practices
Mike offered a complete "how to turn off IPv6 set of commands" that I will follow...his post was regarding some other issues about IPv6, and not necessarily my issue or anything like my issue.... I just ran the benchmark and I guess I should be concerned here because the "failed reque...

Re: nameserver help & best practices
It is an eternity, but like I say how reliable is the free online testing? So for example one result says the dns lookup is 10 seconds, but the site itself takes only 6 seconds to load...how weird? A ping test is resulting in milliseconds response, which is good, but something is really wrong here.....

Re: nameserver help & best practices
Would my local DNS server resolve as quickly and efficiently as their (1and1) top-tier name servers...I am concerned because under some testing services my sites are DNS challenged, ranging from 2-20 seconds in some cases to resolve...I'm not talking about a ping...but i must admit I don't know if t...

nameserver help & best practices
I have a 1and1 dedicated server...the default nameservers are their nameservers... I am hosting about 30 domains.... Is it best practice to use their nameservers and turn off the server nameserver systems on my server, or would it be better practice and more reliable to switch to my local server as ...

PhpMyAdmin loses mysql password
When accessing phpMyAdmin through the plesk interface, I immediately get an error telling me that the user admin password for the mysql database is wrong...this also drops my Plesk connection leaving me with no plesk interface... Then after required login to mysql (ssh), going through the hassle of ...
