Thank goodness I have blogs on my server that I read or I probably would not have found this nasty problem until my boss yelled at me. I did a yum upgrade all and went to Centos 4.4. No problems reported and I assumed all was well. This evening I get home to find the sites unreachable. I thought per...

This explains the strange state I found my slower box in yesterday. RAM was maxed and nearly 2GB swap file was full. Processor was at an all time high of 24! Had to reboot the box using the provider control panel because shotdown command left the box stuck. This morning I find 500MB of RAM usage. I ...

I have two servers. I want one to be ns.domain.com and the other to be ns2.domain.com. Both have glue records pointing to the appropriate IPs and I have set up domain.com on box#2 as a slave DNS in Plesk with an A record on box #1 specifying box #2 is where ns2.domain.com resides. But no matter what...

Master-Slave DNS in Plesk
I've tried what was suggested to get a master-slave DNS going on two separate servers but I've not had any luck yet. named.conf is not being updated on either server. Does anyone know how to make two servers run like this?

PHP 5 upgrade on Centos 4.3
Just thought I'd share. It works smoothly going from 4.3.9 provided you do
Skip the last two move lines. There's no php.conf.rpmnew. Restart Apache and all is well. If you don't you won't have MySQL libraries loaded.mv /etc/php.ini /etc/php.ini.v4
mv /etc/php.ini.rpmnew /etc/php.ini

Hard drive failing or kernel problem?
I've noticed increasing oddities with my server (1and1 server). Yesterday my log parser returned a few of these kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown I've suspected I have a problem for some time now and my SMART scan seems to indicate my HD is nearly 3 years old. The problem is I can't figure out...

Migrate PSA7 > PSA8 then wipe?
I was wondering if anyone had tried migrating off their server and then wiping it for a new install. Does this work well? I need to reimage but I have the dilemma of having important sites that need as much uptime as possible currently. I can rent a server on a daily basis to migrate off to but am w...

Scott, I really appreciate this very detailed explaination. I am going to be giving this a shot in the next couple of weeks. I see that the reimages of 1and1 servers now come with plesk 8, fc4, and a new partitioning. I am thinking of 1. Doing a backup 2. Upgrading to Plesk 8 3. Doing another backu...
