No "fake msnbot" or "fake bingbot"?

Unread post by gaia »

I regularly see "fake googlebot" alerts. But I just searched the last 7 days and found not one single "fake msnbot" or "fake bingbot". I understand fake googlebots are more common, but I find this very unlikely. Therefore, I would like to confirm this works as intended. could someone please tell me if they've found "fake msnbot" or "fake bingbot" alerts in their logs?

thank you

Any bot identifying itself as MSNbot is fake. MSNbot was retired in 2010.

Modsec needs an update.

Microsoft still uses msnbot in the UA field, example:

msnbot-65-55-215-97.search.msn.com - - [14/Nov/2013:04:33:35 -0500] "GET /forums/images/smilies/icon_idea.gif HTTP/1.1" 200 575 "-" "msnbot-media/1.1 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)"
