seamless setup of cpanel and nginx (as reverse proxy)

Unread post by securitywonks »

Hello Everyone

some one attempted nginx as reverse proxy to apache on cpanel server, with automation after a new domain/sub-domain is created updated, thank you.

also, interested to know, if some one attempted webmail, static file serving etc seamlessly while apache deals php content etc...

any attempts about clustered setup in above scenario?

thank you for the info :)

We did the nginx module for Plesk already, called "atomic-accelerator". Aside from some tertiary issues (so far) with SVN integration its handling everything now, new domains, webmail, etc. Its available from the asl-2.0-testing channel.

thank you scott, thank you for the quick response.

so, no more attempts with other control panels now?

I am actually with interest to offer clustered/highly available shared hosting, as up to now, even though many vpses are nice (upto traditional apache based setups) or alternatively nginx based No Control Panel setups which is not much comfortable in shared hosting scenario, I am in search of different options in the process to host nginx as main http server, but as there were not much stable implementations available in that line, I am thinking to try nginx as reverse proxy to apache based on cpanel hopefully.

so, can we use atomic accelerator only with Atomic Secure Linux or with regular linux oses like centos, ubuntu etc?

thank you

Atomic Secure Linux is not a Linux distribution or OS in itself. It's a kernel and a couple of other packages that you can install on top of RHEL/CentOS/Fedora. See http://www.atomicorp.com/products.html for more details.

cpanel doesn't exactly lend itself to 3rd party integration. We have ASL Lite for custom environments like it

Clustering however is a neat subject, I'd definitely like to explore that in the future and enterprise support is already on the ASL roadmap. Once that is in place you would be able to consolidate security management & reporting into one centralized location.

ASL does not require Centos. ASL is fully support on Centos 4 and 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, and the latest supported Fedora.

We are also working RHEL 6 Beta so we will be able to support RHEL 6. (and Centos 6 should be supportable quickly as well, assuming theres no major differences which we do not anticipate)
