What is YUM? How can I find out more. <-- newbie ;o)

Hi

I have only just started maintaining *nix servers, based on our current system running FreeBSD and Plesk 7.1.6.

Due to the php 4.3.9 problems I have been working at a silly rate to learn how to upgrade our system and then keep us up to date on security issues.
Keep in mind I have only used microshaft products for 15 yrs, this is quite a new experience.

Mainly I see YUM is an updater which can hopefully help me to take the pain out of keeping up to date.
But where can I find more info on YUM, what it is exactly and how can I install it on our BSD box?

Sorry if this seems silly, we all start somewhere, any help very much appreciated! :D

Im afraid package managers like yum, up2date and red carpet wont be of any use on a BSD, or other non-RPM based system. You'll have to get someone who knows how to build those applications on a one-by-one basis for PSA on freebsd. We do it, but its pretty time consuming work.
