providing DNS lookups

Unread post by placain »

Is there an easy way to get my Plesk (7.5.2 on FC2) install to act as its own caching nameserver - so it can do DNS lookups on its own, starting at the root servers, rather than going to (e.g.) ns.my-colo-provider.com as listed currently in resolv.conf?

My colo provider doesn't seem to be capable of keeping either of their two nameservers up and running continuously, and that's playing havoc with my machine's ability to function. I've patched the problem in the meantime by adding "bitsy.mit.edu" to my resolv.conf (thank you MIT for your generosity...), but I'd rather just be self-sufficient...

sure just set up resolv.conf to have your local named listed first, like this:

nameserver 127.0.0.1
