I'm not aware of rpm procedures. I had extracted the files with the cpio trick, but I didn't see any %post (installation script?) there.

Anyway, I guess you can pack a -3 and try (I also can do it).

Althought I'm learning about rpm format, I won't become a 'rpm releaser' because of my prefferences for debian-based systems.

Like I said, I removed the condrestart out of %post in mysql 4.0.24-2. Im guessing that what's happening is that its being triggered from %post from 4.0.24-1 when there is an upgrade event. If so that means upgrades from 4.0.24-2 wont result in a restart.
