backup before install

Hello there! I have a RootServer with Fedora 6 and Plesk 8.4 and I need a newer PHP-Version than it was installed. So I will try ART, but I can't make big misstakes with the server, cause it's running productiv. I would like to make backup's from the directories that are affected by the installation...
