Suggested Server Providers

I am in the process of needing to move to a new provider for my dedicated server I rent now. Are there any suggestions for good hosts in the US that work well with ASL?

Question about OSSEC alerts

Since implementing clapf for clamav scans of email using postfix, the email notification I get from OSSEC is filled with items that include the word attack. So, if a email comes in with heart attack (for example) in the subject, that is in the email notifications I get since clapf lists the subject ...

Re: Cron for website

highland - Yes, there are two. If I set it to /bin/bash, the cron job runs fine, but I really don't want to give this user that access to the system. If I set it to /bin/bash (chrooted), I run into the original problem that php is unknown. So that is when I started copying files to to that web users...

Re: Cron for website

I do know that I can set the ssh setting under Web Hosting Settings to /bin/bash and it will work, but is that a good idea? If I set that to forbidden (which I normally do), it seems to be chrooted when it runs.

Re: Cron for website

It is run under their ftp user. But that has no access to php. It seems like the cron jobs run chrooted. Is that not right? I enter a job with the command "php -q /path/to/file" and I get "php: command not found" or "/usr/bin/php -q /path/to/file" and I get "/usr/b...

Cron for website

I have a Plesk 10 server and I have a user that needs to run some php cron scripts that login to their mysql db and make some changes each night. I tried to allow them a chrooted environment, but php and mysql are not available in that environment. I was able to get php running and all the libraries...

Re: New Kernel Less Stable than Last Kernel

Mike, could you tell me the furthest back I can go on the kernel and not be left more vulnerable than the current kernel? I would like to go back as far as possible just to see if it will fix the problem, but don't want to open my server up to problems.

Re: New Kernel Less Stable than Last Kernel

Ha, oops. Here is my thread - http://www.atomicorp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5120. Looking back over that, I have tried the 41-1 kernel. Oh well, guess that isn't going to help me. I thought I had only used the latest kernel, but I forgot that this did happen when I first setup ASL and the c...

Re: New Kernel Less Stable than Last Kernel

premierhosting, I am having this same exact problem. I didn't realize there was another thread about this issue. I will start posting to this thread. Here is my thread (http://www.atomicorp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5224&start=30). I am going to downgrade my kernel to kernel-2.6.32.41-4....

Re: 99-raid-check

Well, this was 13 hours after the check completed, so I assume the load was normal. Unfortunately I was not monitoring the server when it happened. I just found out when one of my clients called about it being down. I was having the problem before when the check was running, but now it seems to be a...

Re: 99-raid-check

Well, funny enough, I ran a check on the raid array last night and it completed successfully. I didn't run it using the 99-raid-check, I just manually started the check. Then today around 13 hours after it completed, my server hung. I had to reboot it to get it back online.

Re: 99-raid-check

Yes, it is nothing to do with the kernel. I have used different ones. But we have different issues I think. It never completes when I run mine. It locks up. I manually ran a repair on the raid array last night and it completed successfully. I plan to run a check later tonight to see what happens whe...

Re: 99-raid-check

Yeah, I just disabled it too. I would like to find out why this happens on the newer 1and1 server that I have and not the older one that I have though. On my older box it does cause the load to jump, but nothing too bad. Nothing like what I see on the newer box. On my newer box it will run for about...

Re: 99-raid-check

I seem to be having a problem with 99-raid-check too. Maybe it is an issue with newer 1and1 server because I just got mine setup and have this problem every time I try to run it. It completely hangs my server and I have to call them and get them to reboot it. The load on the server goes through the ...
