The Web GUI portion is provided by Green Bone Assistant Daemon (gsad). You can stop the daemon, not open the firewall port for it and/or remove the package (greenbone-security-assistant)

Many thanks to Atomicorp for this. Here are my updated install notes for OpenVAS 9 on CentOS 7.3.1611 (minimal install). Final packages of OV-8 are now available for EL7, and FC19-FC22. I'll start working on getting this working on EL6 soon! Many thanks for the EL7 packages.
