Re: Bug/problem with psa-proftpd from Atomic Corp.
This was one of those cases where reproducing the error was next to impossible. I'm just glad that minds much smarter than mine (and thankfully not living on Mars) were able to figure out what was going on based on the scant info I was able to provide. Thanks must also go to two of my customers who ...

XPath error : Invalid expression
Since doing some yum updates the other week, I'm seeing loads of "XPath error : Invalid expression" in the main httpd error log on my ASL systems. There's nothing to identify what's causing it - "XPath error : Invalid expression" is all there is on the line. A Google search indic...

Re: oddities with Centos 7
Yes, I'm working with the guys to resolve this. I need to update the case to give them more details. Please hold on for a bit.

clamd socket permissions
I think I'm struggling with a permissions problem, but I can't spot what the cause is. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I'm hoping it is "obvious" and I've just gone temporarily blind. I'm experimenting on a tests system with Centos 7/Plesk 12 with amavisd-new installed,...

Postscreen for postfix
Has anyone managed to get Postscreen working with Postfix *with Plesk* (and amavisd-new)? Plesk doesn't seem to like Postscreen, thinking Postfix is down when I try to enable it. It may be that I'd simply configured it incorrectly, but before I try to find what I might have done wrong, I thought I'd...

atomic-phpXY-php-runtime?
I noticed what looked like something new when updating various atomic-php packages from Panda, involving -runtime in the package name. e.g. atomic-php70-php-runtime yum info doesn't help - it just says "Package that handles atomic_php70 Software Collection" I presume it has something to do...

Re: PG qmail - no tls?
Whew! Finally. I've figured out why spamdyke won't talk TLS. It is because of fixcrio in the tcpserver line, which breaks TLS Revisiting these posts from a lifetime ago, it seems I was aware of this all the while: https://atomicorp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3534&p=19890 https://talk.plesk.com/t...

Re: PG qmail - no tls?
Well, I have to report that I've failed spectacularly to get spamdyke to handle tls for qmail (for receiving, obviously not for sending) I've been trying all morning, and after sorting a few rookie errors with the perms on the certificate files, I am still stuck with: unable to start SSL/TLS connect...

Re: PG qmail - no tls?
Just getting back to this ... it looks as though we are going to have to move some of our clients off our PG boxes due to lack of TLS. Much to my surprise, one of the UK banks is refusing to send email to mailservers that don't support TLS, and a few of our clients bank with them. I guess this is a ...

All the more reason, I suppose, to scan mail on a dedicated mailscanner node.

Using additional signatures
I realise that the additional signatures that ASL adds to the normal clamav set offers a better level of protection against the kind of nasties that could compromise the security of a server. But they don't seem to help much with booby-trapped attachments, and we are seeing an alarming number of the...

Re: oddities with Centos 7
Further to this, something is definitely not right under Centos 7. This is from /var/log/messages on boot: Feb 21 11:29:22 ip160 psmon[1915]: Forking background daemon, process 1933. Feb 21 11:29:22 ip160 psmon[1933]: Forking second background daemon, process 1934. Feb 21 11:29:22 ip160 psmon: Start...

glibc CVE-2015-7547
I'm surprised there's not been a post about this already. For Centos 6 and 7 (not needed for 5 and 4) updated glibc and nscd rpms are already hitting the mirrors. Now, as I understand it, a system reboot is recommended after installation as you can never be quite sure what might or might not be usin...

Re: CPU and Memory Usage: Less usage settings for my.conf
And be careful with tools like mysqltuner!
It can get you into a lot of trouble by recommending things that will help speed things up, but at the same time will consume massive amounts of memory.
tuning MySQL is really a pain, as it is always a balance between performance and memory usage.
