Although I'm using 7.14 not 7.14, I've had no problems with Scott's mysql4 or php 4.3.10 on my live machines, as long as I run the fix_mysql_priv_tables script after upgrading. I have had some unusual problems on a test machine, but nothing related to mysql and it really looks like there's something...

Yikes. Thanks for that. Looks like building a kernel is as difficult as I thought. Mind you, Red Hat's normal RMS kernels aren't going to be optimised, are they? Just generic. When you release your kernels, could you possibly also release a separate config file (i.e. exported from make menuconfig) f...

[atomic-testing]

Dumbo question Scott, but I can't find any reference to [atomic-testing] on the forums or on your site. Can you tell me what paths to enter in yum.conf please? (I'm keen to try your grsec kernel rpm). On a related matter, how do things work in terms of smp? I notice that RH supply two versions of th...

When you installed the new Zend, did you tell it to use /etc as the location of php.ini or did you leave the default /usr/lib/Zend/ or whatever the default is? I find that you HAVE to say it is in /etc otherwise something doens't quite go correctly in my experience. Try installing again... Also, in ...

When a new config file is included in an rpm, I tend to find that the new one gets written as xxx.rpmnew, leaving the old one intact. This was the case in my case at least when I was still using up2date. I don't remember how I configured things to acheive this. It seems to be the default behaviour w...

interesting!

Nope. Definitely not. Nothing from the unsable channel. I double-checked just in case. The installed apache is the latest from the fedora project's updates channel. It was just updated the other day. I've installed it without probs on my live server. On the previous try I did try installing your hig...

ooh

I'll try that. Should be interesting. In the meantime, is this significant? ldd -d /usr/lib/httpd/modules/libphp4.so gives a load of OK stuff, followd by: undefined symbol: apr_bucket_type_file (/usr/lib/httpd/modules/libphp4.so) undefined symbol: apr_pool_cleanup_null (/usr/lib/httpd/modules/libphp...

getting there...

Aha! Thanks Scott. Well, commenting out the httpd.include didn't help, and all the php stuff looks fine (thanks for putting the commands in, btw- little things like that help a lot when you don't use them every day) and there were no complaints from ldconfig. But it has helped me to narrow things do...

why does this always happen to me?

Well, I've done it again. I've somehow broken something after installing Scott's php and mysql. ** this is on a test system so it doesn't matter **, but I can't figure out what's wrong nor how to fix it, and would appreciate advice. Basically I started with Plesk 7.14 on RH9 with all updates from fe...
