clean install kernel: shlibdata: error 15 in shlibtest2.so

Unread post by rnolds »

Hello,

I've just down a fresh install on a clean system.

Version Parallels Plesk Panel v9.2.1_build92090422.13 os_CentOS 5
OS Linux 2.6.27.24rootserver-20090525a

I installed ASL and ran yum update twice. Everything is good except I'm getting a problem reported every hour from OSSEC:

Received From: www2->/var/log/messages
Rule: 1002 fired (level 2) -> "Unknown problem somewhere in the system."
Portion of the log(s):

Jul 20 18:01:02 www2 kernel: [ 5706.624528] shlibdata[6758]: segfault at 7fbddcec57c0 ip 00007fbddcec57c0 sp 00007fffe55020b8 error 15 in shlibtest2.so[7fbddcec5000+2000]

Previously after installing ASL and doing the reboot when prompted the server failed to come back up. I contacted 1and1 and they verified they couldn't reach the server and booted it into a boot from ram disk mode. However a couple of hours later after they sent the email confirming this when I logged in the server was booted normally and everything (apart from this segfault) is running normally.

Also I noticed on the ASL wiki that on 1and1 I needed to change the ethernet driver name before installing. I didn't do this as I couldn't quite follow the instructions. Initially I thought this was the reason the server didn't reboot before. Might my failure to do this be causing the segfault (although I'm guessing not or I probably wouldn't have access to the server at all).

Any assistance would be much appreciated. It particular how might I be able to go about fixing the segfault? Remove and install the kernel again perhaps from yum?!

Thank you,

Peter

You can ignore this, it is coming from the vulnerability scanner.

Ok thanks. Will do.

Would be great if it could not report the error perhaps in a later release.

Thank you,

I'm still seeing these errors while using ASL 4.0 and stock CentOS 2.6 kernel. Is this still supposed to show up?

Yes, its part of the vulnerability scanner. You can safely ignore this
