Figuring out what files are taking up the most bandwidth

Unread post by Brent »

I have used 105 gigs of bandwidth so far this month.. thats a huge jump from the 56gigs I used in November

What logs can I look through to see what files are being requested the most or anyother waysI can figure out what is causing this

I use ntop to show me more details of traffic usage and servers accessing my servers.

One interesting thing was that dns-cache servers were using large amounts of traffic by accessing my dns servers so I setup a block for the ones that were "abusing" my resourses.

assuming the traffic was all through http traffic (and you have Plesk)...

Check your plesk control panel, after you login with the admin account, you'll see a button "Traffic". (Well, I know PSA 6 has it there, I don't have any other plesk installations) It'll show the breakdown of what client used what amount of traffic.

Once you know which domain name was using the traffic, check out the Webalizer stats. It'll usually show in the "Urls" section what folder or specific file used the most bandwidth. http://www.domain.com/webstat/ is the default installation location.
