My Google-fu has failed me -- I can't seem to find a reference to this anywhere.
neither "tail -f" nor multitail are working for me when connecting to a Centos 6 box via putty. Works fine on Centos 5
By not working, I mean the data in the window does not update/refresh/scroll. It just sits there showing me a snapshot of the file(s).
It makes no difference whether I use "screen" or not.
Multitail draws the various windows correctly and the colours are correct, so I'm assuming all the bits I need are installed?

The tail -f <file> command works fine for me on CentOS 6, but I don't use PuTTY. Have you tried using another SSH client?

The OpenSSH client, since that's generally available by default on any UNIX-based OS worth its salt.

Ditto, I use it from linux obviously. But if you're on windows you can run it natively using cygwin

Thanks both Breun and Scott!
Re: tail / multitail not working on Centos 6?
It seems that tail -f and multitail do actually work. I was looking at the wrong things, or doing something wrong. Or...I don't know. I was under severe pressure at the time and was making a lot of errors.
What was happening was that I was using them to view logs in a live VPS and while this worked in an older version it no longer works in the new version. This is probably expected behaviour but who knows.
