Mostly Dead 1and1 Server - need help

Hi Folks!
I have a server @ 1and1 that crashed over the weekend and will not come up at all... except for rescue mode of course.
It's been running the asl kernel for a couple years without any issues but somehow it got hosed yesterday morning and there are no other working kernels on the rig...
They (1and1 admins) are looking at it but I am getting the impression that it might not be fixable - but I really do not want to go through the hassle of reimaging if at all possible
Any hints, tips, thoughts or ideas of what I can do would be greatly appreciated
