Plesk doesn't start anymore after 7.5.1 upgrade

Unread post by powergen »

Hello Scott, hello everybody.

Just the day before Christmas I upgraded to Plesk 7.5.1.

After the upgrade I also updated MySQL and PHP with ART packages.

When I left the shell all seemed to work well, I had accessed to Plesk, all was smooth.

Today I try to connect to Plesk and have no response.

Plesk was down, I try to start it and have this:

Executing /etc/rc.d/init.d/psa start ..

===> Reading /etc/psa/psa.conf ...
Starting named: [ OK ]
Starting postgresql service: su: incorrect password
[FAILED]
websrvmng: failed to open semaphore file /usr/local/psa/var/utilities.sem: Read-only file system
websrvmng: failed to open semaphore file /usr/local/psa/var/utilities.sem: Read-only file system
PHP Warning: failed to open semaphore file /usr/local/psa/var/psasem.sem: Read-only file system in Unknown on line 0
PHP Fatal error: Unable to start psasem module in Unknown on line 0
/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/httpsdctl start: httpd could not be started
Starting Plesk: [FAILED]

Postgres is normal, all other errors are weird though.

Do you have any clue?

Thanks, powergen

is the file system in read-only mode or something? Or maybe you've exhausted all your semaphores (high file descriptor environment will do that)

Scott,

I have the /usr partition set as ro: I have never had problems with 7.1.x Plesk versions.

I would like to keep this partition as ro; is not possible with 7.5.x anymore?

I have also noted the impossibility to ping externally from the server: do you know whether new firewall module capabilities (even if not installed) have this fallback?

Thanks for your help,

pg

It wasnt really advisable before either :P Since PSA writes all its logs out to /usr/local/psa/var/log. It looks like var is now being used for locking, and socket's as well these days.

Have you talked to sw-soft about it? Im afraid I don't know how critical that particular piece of the system is. It might be completely benign

Scott, If I put RO on /usr Plesk just doesn't turn on anymore.

Old version 7.1.5 didn't behave like this.
