New Plesk 11 Server - Must have packages?

Unread post by chrismcb »

Hi,

I'm currently configuring two new servers which I will migrate domains from a current server over to, once complete.

I've installed ASL, everything's up to date and also installed qmail-scanner as well as 4PSA's Total Backup.

Question: are there any other packages that I could/should be looking into?

Is qmail-scanner enough for spam protection? Is spamdyke recommended too?

Thanks!

Definitely spamdyke Chris. But install and compile from source - don't use the Atomic RPM which (last time I looked) was a quite old version.

Feel free to use any or all of the stuff you'll find at http://www.cymru1.net/terms/emailterms.php for use in your bounce detail url, but a credit or link would be appreciated (same goes for anyone else who wants to use it).

Note that we no longer bother with gr[a|e]ylisting.

Also note that per-domain and per-mailbox configuration can be confusing but is easy once done.
Installing haggybear's wonderful GUI for spamdyke also useful -- but restrict it to admin access not customer access.

Also checks for MX records can lead to false positives when the sender sends from a subdomain. e.g. mx record exists for domain.tld but not for marketing.domain.tld and sender senders from address@marketing.domain.tld

Thanks Faris, will get SpamDyke installed.

I don't have mailing sub-domains, so that one's no problem - neither have I ever bothered with per domain/per user configurations (even though they were possible with 4PSA's SpamGuardan - which I'm replacing).

I've read a lot of stuff from Haggybear's website, however should the "with mysql" version be installed?

For the email messages, how have you gone about customising the message?
From what I've read, you must patch qmail to do this?

you can go with the mysql or the file based version of spamdyke.
different steps to do. mysql is the one that is widely used.

Great, thanks... installing now.

Everything seems to be working fine, stats appearing in the CP etc, no errors in the logs.

Any other tools, utilities, scripts etc people "couldn't live without"?
