DNS Zone Template
DNS Zone Template
Hello there,
I am quite new to Linux so bare with me. When logging into my plesk then going to Server Management --> Tools & Settings --> General Settings --> DNS Template settings. When I reach here I see a box at the top saying Applying the DNS Zone template. (0/131 of zones are synced).
There is an egg timer next to that keeps circling. I was just wondering what this is trying to actually do? If I change the settings of the DNS zone template and sync them then will this sync to all the domains I have? If you could just give me some sort of description of what this is and what it can actually do then that would be fantastic.
Thank you for your time in advance.
Many thanks,
David

Re: DNS Zone Template
A screen shot would be handy. From your description, Plesk is actually trying to do something but doesn't complete it, which is not a good thing.
Anyway.....
When you edit the template on that page and click on OK, Plesk will ask you what you want do:
1) Only apply these new settings to new domains
2) Apply these settings to all current domains that have NOT been modified in any way
3) Apply these settings to all domains even if they have been modified by the customer, but keeping any custom changes they may have made*
* Not sure what would happen if there are conflicts - I have not tested.

Re: DNS Zone Template
Thank you Faris. That is what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure if I edited the template whether that would affect all the current domains as that could have caused quite a bit of trouble! But in the same way could be useful to make changes to all current domains. But you have answered my question as now I know Plesk will ask what I want to do with the changes.
Sorry for not uploading a screenshot. I didn't think!
Many thanks,
David

Re: DNS Zone Template
Yeah, but from the looks of things something definitely isn't right. It looks like Plesk has been trying to apply a template and has failed or is failing. Except it should not continue for ever.
Can anyone else chip in on this please?
Also please note that what I've said applies to Plesk 11.5 and I think 11.09. Not sure about 10.x.
I'm going to do you a screen shot in a moment...hold on.

Re: DNS Zone Template
OK. Here we go:
I removed a record from the DNS template and clicked on OK (after confirming I wanted to remove it).
At the top of the page it showed this:
Then when I clicked on the "here" link (or click on the "Apply DNS Template Changes" button), I get this:
All this was in Plesk 11.5.

Re: DNS Zone Template
Thank you for this. However I added a dummy setting "wibble123" and applied this. Then i got a screen with this:
Then it goes back to the "Applying the DNS zone template 0/146 of zones are synced": And that just continues forever which is a real worry. Is the DNS zone template never applying anything as it is always stuck on 0/146?
I'm not too sure in which way to proceed with this. If anyone could advise me what to do or if anyone else is experiencing the same problem then I would love to hear from you.
Kind regards,
David
But after I click to apply it doesn't prompt me for with 2 options like you get in Plesk 11.5. Obviously this must have been updated as we are only running 10.4.Then it goes back to the "Applying the DNS zone template 0/146 of zones are synced": And that just continues forever which is a real worry. Re: DNS Zone Template
You are running the latest 10.4.4. It could be that this bug was only fixed in Plesk 11.0.9 and 11.5.30, but NOT in Plesk 10.4.4.
Do you see errors about DNS in the Plesk log file at /usr/local/psa/admin/logs/panel.log ?

Re: DNS Zone Template
The last post on the thread you linked me to provides details on how to reset the default DNS template. However if I do this it will most likely change the settings of all the current domains. Am I right?
