Active directory user authentication not working

LDAP in the web gui is enabled.
All I get is "Login Failed"
Using tcpdump to see if a dns request is being made to the domain controller. No dns request seen.
Using "netstat -an" to see attempted connections to LDAPS port 636. No attempted connections.
Looking in the /var/log/openvas logs there is nothing relevant seen, just "Authentication failure for 'me009'"
