Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Hi,
I am trying to install qmail-scanner on fedora 7 and this is what happens:
# yum install qmail-scanner
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package qmail-scanner.noarch 1:2.06-1.fc7.art set to be updated
--> Processing Dependency: perl-suidperl for package: qmail-scanner
--> Processing Dependency: maildrop for package: qmail-scanner
--> Processing Dependency: qmail for package: qmail-scanner
--> Running transaction check
---> Package perl-suidperl.i386 4:5.8.8-30.fc7 set to be updated
---> Package maildrop.i386 0:2.0.4-6.fc7 set to be updated
---> Package qmail-scanner.noarch 1:2.06-1.fc7.art set to be updated
--> Processing Dependency: qmail for package: qmail-scanner
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: qmail is needed by package qmail-scanner
***
When I look at the repos, qmail is not there:
http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/atomi ... i386/RPMS/
but in the repo for f6 it is:
http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/atomi ... i386/RPMS/
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

plesk would come with that dependency
Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
When I do:
# yum list qmail
fedora 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB 00:00
atomic-testing 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
freshrpms 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB 00:00
updates 100% |=========================| 2.3 kB 00:00
Error: No matching Packages to list
All mail seems to be working fine. The Plesk version is 9.2.1. What am I doing wrong? Could I try installing the rpm manually from the fedora 6 repository? (http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/atomi ... i386/RPMS/)

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Has anybody managed to install qmail-scanner in fedora 7? When I try it tells me that I am missing qmail??
Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Hi:
OK, after investigating, it seems I have postfix 2.4.5-2.fc7 installed and not qmail.
Is it posible to get spamassassin working with postfix? is so, how?
or
Am I better of installing Qmail...? If this is the best option, can someone give me an indication on the best and safest way to do that?
Thanks.

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Hi all,
Problems solved. Just reposting in case someone reads this and has the same problem. My plesk, 9.2.1 came with postfix, not qmail. I installed qmail with the plesk autoinstaller from the command line and then followed the instructions on at this link:
http://blog.netweblogic.com/linux/mail/ ... nux-plesk/
Everything seems to be working fine now.

Regarding Fedora 7 - that OS is EOL and the Operating System and has not been maintained or updated in a long time. You should upgrade to a maintained version of Fedora (or switch to RHEL or Centos).

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
I purchased the server in march and it came with Fedora 7 and Plesk installed. I wasn't sure how to upgrade Fedora without breaking plesk so I left it. Now it has over 50 domains on it so I am not sure if I will be able to upgrade to a more recent version without destroying everything...mikeshinn wrote:Regarding Fedora 7 - that OS is EOL and the Operating System and has not been maintained or updated in a long time. I don't recommend doing OS upgrades on a production server. But do realize that you are running an OS that is not receiving security updates.
I hear Plesk 9.2.1 finally brought back the Plesk Migration Manager. I recommend getting a different server.

Hi,
OK, thanks very much. I'll take it into account next year when I am up for renewal.

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
You can of course maintain the server by backporting updated releases from upstream versions.

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
you're talking about way more than a single person working full time has even a remote chance of maintaining. You're better off migrating to a supported environment.
Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
So, I have a question. If new release of fedora comes out every 6 months, how do people with productions servers with 60+ domains keep their server(s) updated if you can't upgrade the OS in a production environment? Do you need to set up another server in parallel with an updated version of the OS, install Plesk, migrate all the sites then updates the DNS to the new server IP?
I just moved over from on old server with Fedore Core 2, Plesk 7.5.2 and I couldn't use the plesk backups to do so (as Plesk told me they weren't compatible) and I had to create all the accounts (client, domain, mail etc...) manually and copy everything (httpdocs/databases/mail folders) across. It was a months work and a lot of lost time ($$).

Re: Problems installing qmail-scanner on fedora 7
You don't use Fedora, but an enterprise distribution that has a long lifecycle, like Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS. Both of those are supported with security updates for 7 years per release. Usually that's longer than the lifetime of your hardware, so you don't ever need to do OS upgrades on production hardware.webrk wrote:So, I have a question. Ditto, thats how I do it. We use fedora for our desktops here at atomic, and CentOS on all our servers.
