auto_whitelist busted

I am using the art package with spamdyke and qmail-scanner and I get this error on auto_whitelist

auto-whitelist: open of auto-whitelist file failed: locker: safe_lock: cannot create tmp lockfile /var/qmail/mailnames///.spamassassin/auto-whitelist.lock.u15...(edit)

any idea on how to make it work?

Have you checked the permissions on /var/qmail/mailnames///.spamassassin/auto-whitelist.lock.u15?

all the mailnames as well as their subdirectories are owned by popuser and the perms set at 700

none of the auto-whitelist files show any white listed emails, should they?
