I am looking to reimage my machine on 1and1's network to fc4 and plesk8. I have 2 questions.
1. The default PHP version in fc4's tree was php5 but 1and1 advertises php4 online is this just an issue of not updating their site? Can someone confirme that php5 is installed by default on a 1and1 fc4 image?
2. I havent ever reimaged a server as i have been able to recover from my blunders. What is the most accepted way to back it up so that i can restore it most easily. Almost everything done to the machine was done in the plesk control panel when possible and all important data lives in the home direcrtories of the domains.
Thanks for the help. -mf

psadump
It seems that the plesk tool psadump and psarestore seem to be my best options for question number 2.

doh
Important
You cannot do a backup and then restore unless the Plesk control panel versions are identical. We recommend using Plesk Updater for upgrading Plesk servers.
doh.. now i get why everyone is upgrading to 8 first...
ok then 8 it is.

PHP5 is indeed installed by default on the new FC4 and Plesk 8 image.

PSABACKUP PSARESTORE
Use caution if you are pinning hopes to restore clients/domains to a FC4 Plesk 8 from previous versions.
Plesk 8 has a new backup app - PLESKBACKUP and PLESKRESTORE
The backups generated by PSABACKUP and PSARESTORE are not compatible with pleskbackup and pleskrestore.
I speak from experience on this. I also verified it at SW-Soft forums.
Fortunatly my Plesk 8/FC4 was performed on a test server with test client domains, but the restore process fails, thus no way to restore.
I am going to attempt migrating a 7.5.4 FC2 server over to the Plesk 8/FC4, reimaging the 7.5.4 box and migrate the data back to see if that will work.
Of course this isn't going to resolve the issue for those having one server.
You would think a conversion process would have been built into the new backup system, but no; that would have enabled better upgrade options.
