migrating a huge domain using migration manager, space issue

Been a while since I posted here but I've got a question hopefully someone can help me with :)

I'm migrating a server running psa 7 to a server running psa 8.01. The psa 7 server is very tight on disk space, only about 4GB free.

I am unable to use the migration manager to move the (single) domain over to the new server because it will run out of disk space. Is there a way to trick/hack the migration manager to populate the domain account and email settings but skip over the httpdocs data? I can do that part separately, but my main concern is getting all of the email accounts and existing password settings copied over, etc.

Runing the migration from the command line I was able to create .xml files without any data in them.
