Spam assasin need to be upgraded?

Unread post by tolis »

Hi all
we currently run a centos3.6 with a psa7.5.3 which includes a spamassasin 2.61-4 and psa-spamassasin 7.5.3-rhel3.build75050506.13
I see lately that many spam mail bypass without being marked as spam and i would like to upgrade but this all situation is confusing me.
If i upgrade SA from ART to which version can i upgrade and if so will the new SA conflict with psa-spamassasin.In the end what is the relationship of psa-SA and SA ?
After the upgrade must i do any configuration or the rpm is good to go?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions?

It is a tricky thing getting psa-spamassassin and spamassassin working to gether.

I'd upgrade psa to 7.5.4 and all packages related to qmail/psa-spamassassin then install via yum qmail-scanner clamd spamassassin. I've been running all these for a while now and from time to time my psa-spamassassin would just stop, I think it has to do with my rules-du-jour updating but I've not found the log entries for when psa-spamassassin stops. It starts up fine and keeps ticking.

If you are not interested in controlling spamassassin via the PSA CP, then don't install psa-spamasassin and just install those 3 from ART and add rules du jour. If you want to give your clients an opportunity to manage spam, install ART's squirrelmail package and end users will be able manage spam.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips franklyn,
i just installed latest psa version to 7.5.4 and i now run spam assassin 2.63. The thing is that i am a newbie in spam related issues and from time to time when i look at the headers of incoming mail i see that some don't have x-spam checkers, others (that are actually spam) have a low rank or negative, and in gennerally a lot of spam gets through spamassassin without being taged as spam.

see the below
X spam checker version:SpamAssassin 2.63 (2004-01-11) on SA2018
Xspam status: No, hits=-1.5 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,DATE_IN_FUTURE_12_24, HTML_MESSAGE autolearn=no version=2.63

I have been thinking on upgrading to spam assassin version 3.x but i dont know how this is going to affect psa-spamassassin... and if it will give better spam checking to the server...

upgrade done but errors occured

Unread post by tolis »

I upgraded spamassassin to version 3.1.3 using art rpms but during the upgrade procedure i got these errors
bayes: bayes db version 2 is not able to be used, aborting! at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0/Mail/SpamAssassin/BayesStore/DBM.pm line 195.

now when i rpm -q spamassassin i get
rpm -q spamassassin
spamassassin-2.63-0.2
spamassassin-3.1.3-1.rhel3.art

Any ideas?

You apparently installed 3.1 next to your old spamassin instead of upgrading. Try rpm -e spamassassin-2.63-0.2 to remove your old spamassassin install.
