AOOI - Err, what is it?

Unread post by kieranjones »

Ok, this may seem like a really stupid question because it strikes me that most people seem to know the answer already but I am still struggling and want to be sure...

What exactly is AOOI?

I mean I read the website and I know that it installs a new operating system in an oh-so-clever fashion, but why do I need it? What advantages does it give? Will it install Plesk again as part of it's install?

I use a 1&1 64-bit server and know that a lot of work was put into making the installer work for the 1&1 servers, and I'm keen to try anything that will improve my server setup in someway, especially if that way is to improve the bizarre partition layout they've got going on.

Finally, does it work? I mean, when I install it will the server just boot up into it's new OS with Plesk there and all I need to do is login and restore my full server backup? Or will I need to do things or correct little things?

I just like to be 100% sure about what I'm doing is all, sorry if it's a dumb question.

It reimages the system with CentOS, it doesn't reinstall plesk at this time. I wrote it because I dont like the chopped up partitioning (I like /boot, /, and swap), and I wanted to use a supported OS with a long support cycle.

Actually I'd like to update it to CentOS5, so if someone has a box they can loan me to start testing out updates that'd be great.

Scott, I have just ordered a new box, so I should have a box you can test with in the next couple of days. Do you still need it?
