For CentOS 4.2 must I change $releasever for 4ES?
If I set that to 4ES, I get also updates for rpm's that i don't have installed en i don't wan't to install these such as Project gamera.

yes you need to set it to 4ES. Are you saying it tries to install project gamera when you run "yum update"?

yes, that is what happening, when i say yum update php is see only the php rpm's but when i see yum update, i get all packages include project gamera.

OK can you send me the output of rpm -qa and yum update to me in an email to see if I can duplicate it?

Very strange
I have installed Plesk 7.5.4.
After the install of plesk yum update gives only mysql and php and spamassasin. That's good. The problem is solved.
Strange but good. Keep up the good work scott. Thanks for your support.
