ART MySQL and distro's own PHP

I don't want to take the jump to PHP 5 just yet and since ART's PHP 4.4.x is not supported anymore (and seems to break PEAR) I am going back to the distro's default PHP versions (FC2/FC3/CentOS4 machines).
On CentOS 4 I'm also sticking with the distro's own MySQL packages (exclude=mysql* php*; CentOS has MySQL 4.1), but on FC2 and FC3 I use ART's MySQL to use MySQL 4.1 instead of 3.23 (only exclude=php*). Is this feasible or might this combination break some day, Scott? Will upgrading ART's MySQL ever require upgrading to your PHP packages (PHP5 in particular)?
