Is it safe to update sendmail?

Is it safe to update sendmail?

I know that Plesk uses Qmail instead of sendmail. When I run "yum check-update" I have 3 sendmail packages that need to update. If i update sendmail with yum, will this break qmail? If I do not update, is it safe to remove sendmail so that I do not keep getting the update notices?
