Fedora Core -> CentOS and Plesk using yum

I know it's possible to change a Fedora Core 3 machine to a CentOS 4.3 machine using yum (see http://harryh.homelinux.org/?p=69 for instance, I've also converted a workstation from CentOS 4.3 to Fedora Core 5 the other day (which was a little more work)).

I wonder if Plesk would survive such an upgrade however. I am planning on testing this in VMware, but if someone already tried and knows it won't work I won't bother trying (since I first need to setup a working VMware install).

Failing this I'll just try AOOI or get a new server and use the Migration Manager, I guess.

FC3 to C4 wouldn't be much different than a FC3 to FC4 update. One thing I look for when Im doing that is if there is a PSA base update at the same time. So say you're on FC3 with 7.5.3, thats an ideal config to look for in a hot upgrade to C4/7.5.4. I always back it up before I do that though, even if I rarely ever need it.

Where I would be leary of doing that is when you're making a really big change in OS's, like RH9 to C4. You'll end up spending more time cleaning up all the config files than if you just backed it up, and reinstalled the box.

And say I have FC3 machines running 7.5.4, would upgrading them to CentOS work while keeping Plesk at 7.5.4. Would I have to force upgrade the CentOS 4 versions of the Plesk rpms?

I would if that were an option, it will probably be OK without it. The main thing I'd worry about are library dependencies, which are going to fail silently. It probably won't happen between FC3 and CentOS 4, since they're so similar. If you were taking a bigger leap, like RH9 to C4, then you'd probably be better off reinstalling PSA as well.
