kernel-utils in ASL / FC4

Hi,

I just got myself a freshly reimaged 1and1 business server, and have decided to install ASL this time. I've got my subscription, and added the repostiory to yum. However, when I type yum update now, I get:

Error: Missing Dependency: kernel-utils is needed by package kernel

Does anybody have any ideas on this? Nothing I've tried so far (eg. force removing kernel then installing again) has seemed to work.

This is a fresh install, running Fedora Core 4

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tom

Try installing the package?

Have you tried:

Code: Select all

yum install kernel-utils
?

Does:

Code: Select all

 yum check-update
seem to work properly?

Thanks for the help! Yes, doing

yum install kernel-utils

failed because it couldn't find the rpm in the repository. I'm pretty sure that kernel-utils doesn't exist in FC4 and that it was obsoleted, replaced by several other packages.

I got round this by using rpmfind.net - This showed several kernel-utils packages for FC2 and FC3 but none for FC4.

I install the latest version for FC3, and this seemed to fool it long enough for me to install the ASL kernel.

When I then did a yum update, kernel-utils was deleted again, to be replaced by several other packages...

Resolved?

So is everything working OK now? Is the issue resolved?
I just want to make sure you're not left hanging... waiting for a solution! :D

Hi Scot,
Sorry - will do in future! Thought it might have been a common prob other people had run into, because of coming from a fresh 1and1 install. I've sent more details via email!
Thanks
Tom
