Hi Scott,
I want to run ASL 2.0 on a production server running about 30 websites.
Its a Core 2 2.66 with 2 GB of RAM, running FC6, Plesk 8.2, etc
There is some moderate use of SQL right now. I am thinking I would really need 4GB or RAM?
As far as network, its running 30 dedicated IP addresses as each site has its own dedicated IP, and about 14 SSL certificates.
Can you let me know your recommendations.

These are my rough notes:
If you are using an 32-bit Intel CPU:
1G of ram
Factor 3-5% of overhead for stack protection (ASL Kernel)
64-bit Intel CPU:
2G of ram (this is normal for anyone on 64-bit!)
Factor in 3-5% of overhead for stack protection (ASL Kernel)
32-bit AMD CPU:
1G of ram
64-bit AMD CPU:
2G of ram

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply!
Its running i686 kernel as I am happy with 32 bit. If 64 bit really recommended for a dual core, or it 32 bit okay (in your opinion).
Also as she is a plesk server, I see the 32 bit package is i586, so I am doubting swsoft would be making proper use of 64 bit anyway?
Do you think for me 4GB is overkill?
The reason I ask, my main workstation I use runs F7 with a single thread 2.8 GHz P4 533 FSB and 1 GB of RAM.
I am seriously thinking as my plesk server (the 2.66 dual core) has 2 GB using both ram slots, I have to toss the ram out for 4GB, and I have no other machines to make use of the RAM.
So my thought was to get a new dual code 1333 FSB 3.0 Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM and throw that MB into the server case, and throw the old MB / CP and RAM into this machines case.
If you think 4GB is not useless I will go ahead.
Also is ASL2.0 now okay to run on a production server?
Thanks again!

Plesk does have a 64 bit compile (should be available for FC6). You can download it off the Plesk site. And you really should consider running CentOS 5 instead of Fedora since FC6 will be EOL soon after Fedora 8 is out. Also as she is a plesk server, I see the 32 bit package is i586, so I am doubting swsoft would be making proper use of 64 bit anyway?
Linux will use 100% of your RAM to maximize performance, regardless of how much stress is on your box. I don't think there is such a thing as a server with too much RAM.Do you think for me 4GB is overkill?
