Hi Guys,

I had to remove Qmail Scanner during the little blip it had when ClamAV wasn't working. I'm only just getting round to putting it back on now as spam has gone through the roof without it.

Running

yum install qmail-scanner

Gives no errors, qmail-scanner is running and everything seems hunky dory, at first. However, no mail can be sent (Outlook will timeout trying to send) and no mail comes in. Removing qmail-scanner, everything back to normal, previously sent messages trickle in.

I'm running this on Plesk 8.0 box, Fedora Core 4 and I'm a little lost where to start as no errors are forthcoming and I'd love to get qmail-scanner back up and running :(

I'm stopping Spam Assassin and Qmail (though Plesk GUI) before attempting anything and as said, on the surface it installs cleanly. Can anyone help shed any light or suggestions on where to look?

Qmail scanner won't run out of the box. You will need to customize /etc/qmail-scanner.ini and then run qmail-scanner-reconfigure for them to be applied. Lots of info on this forum about that.

Plesks version of spamassassin also isn't compatable with qmail scanner. It is old anyway. Use the version in the ART repo. You'll lose control panel manageability though.

BTW, you should check the maillog and post an excerpt. That would have told you something was borked right away. :)

Hmm, still using the previous qmail-scanner.ini install. I wonder if it's Spam Assassin, how do you remove the Plesk Spam Assassin component? :S

sudo rpm -qa | grep spam

What is the output?

Your help is much much appreciated :)

I get this -

Code: Select all

psa-spamassassin-8.0.0-fc4.build80060331.13
spamassassin-3.1.7-1.rhfc4.art

Usual disclaimers apply - if you hork your box, I'll feel sad for you. That's about the limit of my liability. :) Seriously, backup before any changes. I'm kinda a nut about that.

sudo yum remove psa-spamassassin

That should remove the PSA version of spamassassin. Install qmail-scanner again, run qmail-scanner-reconfigure, and cross fingers.

lol understood. Thanks for the tip. I'm about to go off on holiday to Barbados for a couple of weeks so think for the sake of the clients on the box I might wait until I return before risking it... I reenabled the MAPS xbl list for Spamhaus last night and it seems to have dropped the spam back down to 30 or so day (from 200 or so). That will do for this week, on my return, horking time! :)
