hey All,

Hopefully I can get some help here. Support with my host is limited to say the least.

I have a domain server running Plesk 9.2, Fedora 6, and PHP 5.1.6 (30 domain license for Plesk as we do host other domains for local businesses etc.)

I am using a shopping cart that requires the mcrypt libraries in order to accept credit cards to run manually through our terminal.

I have tried using YUM to update to no avail. Apparently since I have Fedora 6 and Plesk 9.2 there are no updated PHP packages that will pull with YUM.

I have reinstalled YUM and get an issue where it TRIES to pull updates etc, but always throws an error about not being able to open the xml file.

Basically is there anyway to install mcrypt manually? I have SSH access, and although I am no where near a Linux guru I can get around and take directions very well.

My plesk.repo and atomic.repo files I think look OK but for the life of me I cannot figure out why yum wont work . I have cleared teh cache , done pretty much all I can read and find and do, and still no joy on loading the mcrypt at all.

I am fairly certain I will need to load some dependencies as well, but just not sure how to proceed since yum is not working.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Fedora Core 6 is old. It reached end of life on december 7 in 2007.

I understand that Fedora 6 is an older OS, however, I don't want to go through all the trouble and expense to update as I have customers that depend on us for email etc.. very picky customers. Couldn't take a major amount of downtime if you know what I mean.

All I need to know is how to add the mcrypt package to php. If its possible I could use the help. If its not possible, then I will have to consider other alternatives.

Ill make certain and file it under all the other useless information I have acquired.

But can you afford running an OS that doesn't receive any security updates anymore? I'd start getting a new machine up, installing CentOS 5 (or anything else you like that has a long lifecycle) and start preparing for a migration.

You are absolutely right, and that is what we have decided upon. Our host has been gracious enough since we have been with them so long as to install CentOS and migrate everything over for us for a minute amount of $$$. In the process we are ading a 160GB hd in addition to the 80GB we have.

This should more than take care of the few domains that we host.

As far as when I do run yum the error I get is:

And I think basically that's your problem. The plug was pulled on FC6. They must have moved them somewhere else?

Yup, you're pointing to repo's that no longer exist.

The archived repositories for Fedora Core 6 i386 are here:

So, update your yum configuration files to use those URL's.

Duhhh.. always the simple things. Guys I so much appreciate the help. It never even occurred to me the repository locations would have changed.

All is working and we still are upgrading to CentOs anyways. Just seems like the logical thing to do.

My host is adding a 160GB hard drive for us with CentOS installed and we will simply move all our live domains over. I have tried using the Plesk migration feature before and got burnt badly, so I learned my lesson on that snafu.

They (host and swsoft) swear just creating a full server backup, and then reimporting it will work, but I would rather just be safe, and get the 160 installed as the master drive and manually migrate stuff over.

I want to seriously thank you all for the help.
