After the ridiculous OpenSSL updates breaks Fedora, Redhat and Centos, I knew sooner or later parallels would ask and here it comes:
http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.p ... to=newpost
I suggest more posts about how stupid this is. If we all now have to verify package updates against their compatibility we may as well disable yum or end up with so many exclusions sooner or later updates will stop due to dependency issues.
The question should be why the hell are they hard compiling packages against specific libraries directly. If so be prepared to rebuild them fast not every blasted plesk panel update every 3 months.
There is already another plesk issue with another OS (not Fedora, Redhat or Centos), but an update to curl breaks plesk from key updates.
How stupid having to stop critical updates due to poorly written software or a developer not prepared for timely updates.
For hell sake it's been days and no fix for OpenSSL! How long does it take to rebuild it!
Disgraceful! You might get faster response paying parallels to fix their software!
Plesk and package updates here we go!

I feel your pain. It's really a shame of how some companies treat their customers.
Maybe this puts you in a good mood:

Re: Plesk and package updates here we go!
Thanks, but a RHEL 5 specific rpm is not included in download. I don't believe for one second that EL5 is not affected and do not wish to restart PSA to find out... Holding out for a solution soon as RHEL 5.5 update is pending (which going by this, will probably break a whole host of other PSA stuff)

Re: Plesk and package updates here we go!
Is there still no real* open alternative to Plesk? Or even a commercial product that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? cPanel isn't an option here - I don't see any advantage to it over Plesk.
*When I say "real", I mean something that is good enough for actual customers to use and with a UI that doesn't look like it was designed by an 8 year old.
When you think about it, a DIY solution would not be hard. Even I could create the functional but rough around the edges equivalent of Plesk 1.0 or even 2.0 in a week or so (I am not putting down Scott and Mike's efforts on the original thing here -- it is at least 10000% easier to do today than it was back in 1999 or whenever it was). And if I can do that, surely someone who programs professionally could do a Plesk 9 equivalent in the same sort of time.
Faris.

Re: Plesk and package updates here we go!
I've seen a lot of people post that it'd be easy, but I don't see anyone building anything better. I've been keeping an eye on OpenPanel, but that doesn't seem to move very fast. But sure, go ahead if you think you can do it and make a better control panel (or go and help out with something like OpenPanel).

You should be able to use the patched sw-cp-server for CentOS 5, as RHEL and CentOS are built from the same sources.Kalimari wrote:Thanks, but a RHEL 5 specific rpm is not included in download. I don't believe for one second that EL5 is not affected and do not wish to restart PSA to find out...

Building a control panel is definitely not easy. Its chock full of tiny little integration things that will annoy and confound the hell out of you at every turn.

Great ++ thanks, it worked using CentOS 5 rpm!breun wrote:You should be able to use the patched sw-cp-server for CentOS 5, as RHEL and CentOS are built from the same sources.
