The nginx and php-fpm rpms are great but I wonder whether it would be possible to include fastcgi_cache_purge with the nginx RPM?

Sure, is that an internal module to nginx? or is it some 3rd party extension?

It's a third party module and is actually called ngx_cache_purge:
