This might be a stupid question but can FC2 servers use updates from this archive:

No, you dont want to use that archive. Packages in that channel will eventually evolve into FC6, which would only be remotely compatible with FC5

Take a look at http://www.fedoralegacy.org/ for updates for Fedora Core 2.
