Joomla install on Plesk server-wide

Unread post by coolemail »

I have a CentOS5 Linux server with Plesk 8.6. Plesk has a server-wide Application Vault. It has Joomla 1.0.15 on that, and 2 domains have instaleld it (neither is actually using it in anger).

I guess that a Joomla upgrade would have to be done on a domain by domain basis, and that it is not possible to upgrade the application server-wide?? Certainly it appears that way from their documentation http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_1 ... 1.5_Stable

Assuming that is correct, then I want to install 1.5.14 at server level so that it is available for all domains. Can you tell me how to do that as I do not ideally want to upload it to individual domains that may want it. http://downloads.joomlacode.org/docmanf ... on_0.5.pdf is all about putting it onto a single server, and I would like to get it onto the Plesk application Vault if possible.

To add a new application to the application vault:
1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane.
2. Click the Application Vault icon in the Services group.
3. Click Add New Application Package.
4. Click Browse and locate your application package in .rpm, .deb, .sh or .zip format, then click OK.

Does anyone know where we can find Joomla in a format where we can do that so that it will appear for all customers?

Thanks, as ever, in advance.

you can find the packages here:
http://www.apsstandard.org/app/#search=joomla
But the packages are not updated immediately after an update is available.
So right now the actual joomla package is Joomla! - 1.5.13-6

WordPress update

Unread post by coolemail »

I'm trying to get the latest WordPress on our server which has Plesk 9.2.3.

http://www.apsstandard.org/app/#search=wordpress suggests that 2.9.0 is the latest, and this is the only one that is showing up on the Plesk updates as well. However, http://wordpress.org/download/ says that they have released 2.9.1.

I'm looking at http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress. If I do the following, will that automatically add it to the application list, or is there something else I should do?:

Code: Select all

wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz
tar -xzvf latest.tar.gz
Grateful for any help, as ever.

EDIT:- I just tried something via Plesk, albeit trying to get 2.9.0 Release 1.2 onto the server. I did this:
Plesk > Applications
Highlighted WordPress v.2.8.4 and checked for updates. It found 2.9.0 which I then installed, and all looked OK.
Now when I go to a domain and try to install it, having put in the details required, it shows the T&C. But when we click "Finish", it says:
Warning: Web application installation failed: Filesystem error: boost::filesystem::copy_file
Filesystem error: boost::filesystem::copy_file
Can someone help on that as well?

I got a response from Plesk to say that they replicated the error and have corrected it with teh latest WordPress release which is now available for adding to the Plesk Applications List. We have tested this and it is working fine.

I've uploaded the recommended appstandard package and now Plesk tells me:

Warning: Unable to register the package located in the directory "joomla-1.5.15-18": The uploaded application distribution package does not conform to the AppPacks specifications: DOMDocument::relaxNGValidate() [<a href='domdocument.relaxngvalidate'>domdocument.relaxngvalidate</a>]: Did not expect element id there.. You should remove the package from the server because it will not function properly.

This is just so frustrating...

I don't just want to get rid of an error... the application doesn't even show in the list because it will not install properly.
