Plesk 10 tidbits

Unread post by breun »

I haven't tried to install it yet, but Plesk 10 has appeared on the Parallels website.

The most notable bits as far as I'm concerned:

* Parallels offers free help with upgrading/installing/migrating to Plesk 10 after you've tried at least once yourself: http://www.parallels.com/eu/support/ple ... tance_toc/

* According to http://www.parallels.com/eu/products/pl ... uirements/ Fedora is no longer supported. (Not that I'm running any servers on Fedora myself.)

* http://www.parallels.com/eu/products/plesk/new/ says Plesk supports 'native packaging systems'. An official yum repository for Plesk packages?

* "Caching server support – Now you can put a caching server in front of Apache to support faster performance and more Web sites without adding hardware." Built-in support for an HTTP caching proxy like Squid or Varnish or something?

* "Migration without additional disk space – You will save money on hardware costs when migrating, because migration no longer requires twice the disk space." That's nice.

I've played around with Plesk 10 and I'm very pleased with the new features so far, especially the unannounced ones.

* The HTML template files are unencrypted. Meaning you can virtually change the whole panel!
Check these files: /usr/local/psa/admin/smb/application/views/scripts/

* Myplesk.com-links (domain registration, SSL certificates etc.) can be changed. Why not link to your own domain registration page if you have one?
More info: http://download1.parallels.com/Plesk/PP ... /index.htm

* Plesk 10 gives you total control over the apache configuration with custom configuration templates! Finally!
More info: http://download1.parallels.com/Plesk/PP ... /index.htm

Good times :)

Does anyone know if Plesk 10 works well with the atomic yum updates for RHEL/CentOS (php 5.2, etc)?

Also, has anyone tested the upgrade process from Plesk 9.5.x to 10.x?

Thanks!

Not yet. Let the early adopters find the big bugs. Wait for at least 10.0.4 before considering the upgrade, even though it would appear that things are vastly improved in this version.

Everything worked with the big packages (mysql, php, etc). Ive seen some smaller integration issues with tertiary packages, like fcgi, qmhandle (updated), etc.

Until yesterday not even 24hours there was no update and today I logged back into the server and I saw updates to :
A. 9.5.3 -> B. 10.0.0 -> C. 10.0.1 (Not even a day and they allready started issuing patch updates and tickets on the forums)

I also found out new bugs reported some being serious in my opinion in the parallels forums and parallels admited that they already opened tickets for these bugs. One is problems with some operations on database level with the phpmyadmin.

Don't see any reason to update so early. Every time I trusted parallels with brand new updates I got hit hard... :(

Plus If Scott or the other gurus of these forums don't give us the green light with Plesk 10.x.x and the compatability of the new plesk with asl and atomic, I am going to sit tight with my 9.5.2.
At least its working even though it has some bugs.

*** I saw many of the bugs (some of which i've mentioned in the forums myself) solved supposately, in 9.5.3 patch and 10.0 but yet postfix is not fixed ... !!!!!!!!!!!!

Question ? : Does anyone know if the new free billing of plesk as it says apply for me that I have Unlimeted Domains license (supposately it should according to their anouncement). And does it also support paypal gateway and directi for domain names registration etc ? Or is it just for selling plesk ?
A nice thing if they have added that and if its working properly as well.

I think 9.5.3 is fine. Go ahead and upgrade to that

10.0.1 might be worth waiting for a bit for the kinks to settle out. Lots of interesting stuff going on with it, I'm looking forward to testing it out

Just noticed that RHEL/CentOS 4 is also not supported by Plesk 10.

Hm, seems they updated the system requirements and RHEL/CentOS 4 actually is supported.
