psa-proftpd conflicts - plesk won't update

I get this on my boxes.

Any ideas ?

A dependency problem is found: required package psa-proftpd-xinetd-1.3.2e-cos5.build95101022.10.x86_64 conflicts with psa-proftpd-1.3.3c-2.el5.art.x86_64. No upgrade or obsolete solution was found for psa-proftpd. Try to add psa-proftpd to removable list.Problem occured during searching conflicts for package psa-proftpd-xinetd-1.3.2e-cos5.build95101022.10.x86_64 Error: Unable to proceed with the installation until the package psa-proftpd-1.3.3c-2.el5.art.x86_64 is removed from the system.

you could shut down ftp port for security reasons (due to vulnerability in plesk proftpd package which was discussed here).
yum remove psa-proftpd-1.3.3c-2.el5.art.x86_64
update Plesk
yum install psa-proftpd-1.3.3c-2.el5.art.x86_64
EDIT: and than open ftp port again ;)

I havent tried it on my own. So just an idea how to try it. Do it on your own risk :)

Its been a few days and I wonder. Hasn't anyone else had the exact same problem ? This should affect everyone as I can understand. Except if noone cares to update to the latest 9.5.3 update of plesk and all are waiting for 10.x to become stable...

what happens if you exclude those two packages in plesk.repo file and than try to update?
psa-proftpd-xinetd-1.3.2e-cos5.build95101022.10.x86_64
psa-proftpd-1.3.2e-cos5.build95101022.10.x86_64.rpm

I will update to Plesk 9.5.3 but I let some time pass by. There seems to be no security reason to update to Plesk 9.5.3.
Otherwise I would have updated allready. Plesk 10 is something I will try out in the middle of the next year or later.

In the newer base package only proftpd got updated?

This just bit me also on both boxes and i'm fully up to date. If i try and remove art proftpd version it wants to remove all of plesk. Any solution on this/

Good news, it looks like the latest parallels update will upgrade now. Once its complete run:

yum reinstall psa-proftpd

I just cleared the tmp on both boxes and rebooted then tried to update thru plesk and still getting the issue that it won't update without removing art psa-proftpd. Funny thing is i get one email that says it went thru and it's updated and the next one says it failed due to the art proftd. I tried to remove psa-proftpd 1.3.3.c and it still trys to remove all of plesk. Any solutions?

Ran yum and installed the 2 proftpd builds,then Plesk updater and all is well now. Seem's to have worked itself out with the updater issue.

Great.

Just ran yum update and an updated psa-proftpd was there that wasn't yesterday when I ran it. Installed. Then run within Plesk the update to 9.5.3 and all's well now. Installed successfully!

I think I messed up and agreed to the situation in post 3 a few weeks ago and blew away a chunk of my Plesk 9 install.

I have a working server and a broken control panel. /etc/init.d/psa is missing.

I tried to reinstall Plesk but it won't reinstall with proftpd still installed.

I tried yum remove several times and it reports successful but isn't really removing proftpd

psa-proftpd.x86_64 1.3.3c-3.fc8.art installed


I do use the atomic repo to get the latest php and related packages.

What is the best way for me to recover from this situation? Thanks!

Second reply to get subscribed to the thread... there isn't a menu option to do that after the fact?

I'm moving along again. I needed to add a psaftp user, then try to remove, and seem to be moving OK through the re-install process.
