Mail dead after Upgrade attempt

Unread post by AlleyKat »

I hit Upgrade last night, assuming it was something like an update. I was wrong, it seems.

Actually, nothing happened. Nothing at all - I hit "Upgrade to 8.0", confirmed that it should start - and nothing whatsoever happened thereafter. I'm quite patient so after 4-5 hours of busy nothing, I checked, and nothing seemed to have changed. But it certainly had.

When qmail was restarted over the morning, it had a tendency to shut down after a few minutes - not like it usually does, stall sending mails, queueing them until restarted every hour.

After having restarted it more than 50 times along the day, I tried restarting the server instead. I don't think I should have done that.

I see the following in my rpm list:
psa-autoinstaller-3.0.0-build060321.19
psa-migration-manager-7.5.4-fc3.build75060321.20
courier-imap-3.0.8-fc3.build80060331.13
psa-php4-configurator-1.0.0-fc3.build80060331.13
psa-proftpd-xinetd-1.2.10-fc3.build80060331.13
(FC3)

Nothing mailrelated seems to work, not even Horde.

I'm almost 100% sure that what I need to do is uninstall the wrong builds and install the right ones, but where do I find the original psa courier? I thought I had it in my plesk repo, but that seems to be the '-add' package, so I'm kinda stuck...

Help, please? All our mail services are down...

I read something about spamassassin, qmail-queue goofing up the upgrade to psa 8.x and that the fix was to remove those first then perform the upgrade then re-add those componets.

Read that on SW's forums I think.

 I got it solved by manually removing and reinstalling older packages too.

I'm sorry about the cross-post, but I was getting rather desperate after many hours of trying. I wasn't able to post an update with the solution unfortunately - I'm not sure why, but I couldn't post here.

It would be nice if someone took the time to write a decent howto on how to upgrade Plesk with Scott's repositories.

My goal is to keep upgrading down to: yum update

so if it gets more complicated than that, then we need to work out the kinks more.

:D Thanks for that statement Scott; then again, you can't take responsibility for every setup out there...

I get:
Error: Missing Dependency: udev >= 057-3 is needed by package mkinitrd

I'm running on a Fedora FC4/FC3 (it seems somewhat mixed up), but everything else works fine and other updates runs. I'm on one of server4you.de's opterons and can't update to latest plesk 8 due to a kernel problem - but it's kinda OK, the rest of the system is pretty much set up as we exactly want it.

Isn't it kinda allright I say I'm a happy camper and leave it at that?

Thanks for a cool site & repo.
