plesk 8.1 - FC4 - Install php4 & php5

Unread post by d-fuzion »

Hello,

I'm installing a new server with FC4 and plesk 8. I'm not used to FC cause I managed only Debian servers. The one I just installed is with FC4 + plesk 8.1 + php5. All my customers' sites are on php 4.3 and I don't have the time to migrate all to php5. How can I install php4? or maybe better remove php5 and install php4? But I don't want to mess my plesk config and need to be in production asap!

Thanks for your help

best

You cant really downgrade exactly, I recommend running CentOS4 instead, especially since FC4 was end of lifed back in october. CentOS4 uses PHP 4 by default, but also support php5 and mysql5, which will make updating easier in the future. I love your website btw.

Hi Scott,

I cannot change my distro as it's a server provided with FC4 + plesk. I don't have the choice...
It's really not possible to have both php versions working together?
Thanks for my web site!

I have a script that will rebuild the box for you, where are you at 1and1?

whaou! what a good news!
No i'm not at 1and1. It's OVH in France. What will exactly do your script? Is there a risk of wrecking plesk install? I'm not really in prod but I already changed dns of 3 domains, waiting for propagation... And there's a big mess on my other production server since 8.1.1 update (seems to be due to changed permissions...).
Can you explain? Is it easy to execute?

My config : FC4 + php5.0.4 + mysql4

It re-images the box, so you've got to back up the data (psabackup, etc)

Hi Scott,

Is it simple and fast to use? If I need to reinstall my box i can only do it in automatic mode with fc4 and php5 again. Will I be able to do it on myself each time I need to reinstall?
I checked all the sites and few aren't working with php5. Couldn't find why... But theses are the most important! So maybe It would be better to have php4.
Can you explain your procedure as I don't have a plesk license and need to use OVH panel to install distro and panel at the same time. I think it's like 1and1.

I'm a bit confused... I understood that your script made a backup and reinstall a fresh system on it. For me it would be FC4 + PHP4 + PLesk8 but where will you take the Plesk license from? Mine is a leased one. And for image? How can I install it as I don't have any physical access to the server? From my backup space? But I'm not sure I have an access to the server until I install a distro from ISP panel...

Could you give me precisions about that? It's a kind of procedure I'm not used to!!!

Thanks

Your Plesk license is contained in the psa.key file. If you back that up and reinstall Plesk all you need to do is put that key file back into Plesk (install it, don't just overwrite it) and Plesk will recognize your license (provided it's still valid).

I've done numerous reimages over SSH. Heck, I've never even seen the servers we rent. The AOOI installer works like a charm generally. If that fails, however, be sure you can do something else. For instance I can reimage my server through the 1and1 panel. I'd contact your host and find out what procedures they have should you need something that drastic.

ok. Sure some of you manage easily this kind of procedure but I'm a little bit scared about making mistakes! But i'm still a bit raider so i'll do it... with your help!

I downloaded the Grub installer and looked at the code. It's only for centOs. Scott if I understand I need to install centOS instead of FC4? I thought you had a script to install fc4 with php4... But maybe it's not a problem as in the OVH management console, when I install system I can choose between several distro (but only one is with plesk8 - FC4).

So what do I have to do?

1. download Grub installer script and run it?
2. after reboot it seems i have the minimum system. I download plesk autoinstaller and run it?

Could you precise the procedure? I surely miss something!

Thanks for your help

Hi, just tried to install Atomic Grup OS Installer but i immediatly get this message :
Grub not detected. Grub is not supported yet.
I'm on FC4. Scott you told me to use AOOI but maybe I missed something... Is it the good file ? Do I need to install something before?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, just installed the script, rebooted and ssh logged. I follow the previous instructions :
CentOS4 installer has been configured, back up your data, and reboot the system.
run grub, savedefault --default=X --once
I ran grub but what do I have to do now? I tried to use savedefault --default=X --once but nothing works...
Could you give me a tutorial on how to install centos with AOOI? I 'm totally lost!
Thanks

Hi Scott.
Do you know what I can do to install a fresh centos on my server with your grub AOOI script? I don't know what to do now (see previous post)... and I don't have same thing on screen as on your tutorial for 1and1...

Thanks
