Update problems

Unread post by Paul »

A standard yum update for php kept failing with a dependancy on php-pear for 5.0.4.

I did a yum install php-pear and that seemed to do the trick, it installed php 5.2.2

However, I cannot get mysql to update, I just get a whole string of messages ;
file /usr/bin/mysql_tableinfo from install of mysql-5.0.27-1.fc4.art conflicts with file from package mysql-4.1.20-1.FC4.1

file /usr/share/mysql/dutch/errmsg.sys from install of mysql-5.0.27-1.fc4.art conflicts with file from package mysql-4.1.20-1.FC4.1
That is just the first few lines, how do I get around this ?

I highly recommend upgrading from FC4, its an unsupported OS so you're going to keep running into problems like this.

That's not going to happen, I'm not that brave with linux I'm afraid - any other options ?

The only other option is sticking with an unsupported OS that will have more and more known unpatched security issues.
