Problem upgrading PHP to V5.2.3-4

First off I'd like to thank Scott for his work. I'm impressed!

I'm updating my PHP 5.0.4 to 5.2.3-4. I'm on a 1and1 VPS running Fedora Core 4 X86_64. I've upgraded Plesk to version 8.2.1.

I'm getting the following error during the update:

Error: Missing Dependency: php-common = 5.2.3-3.fc4.art is needed by package php-pdo

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Below is my log. Thanks.

Looks like some overlap with that sw-soft distributed php. Unfortunately when you get that, you've got to remove the older packages and treat this as a new install.

This probably needs work, so we'll update the thread as more info comes in:

Step 1) List all the existing php packages
rpm -qa |grep ^php-

Step 2) Remove all of them
rpm -e --nodeps <package name>

Step 3) Install the new ones:
yum install <package name>

Where do you see that? I don't see that.

I do see that all packages are being set to be upgraded to 5.2.3-4, but somehow php-pdo is set to be upgraded to 5.2.3-3 which causes the conflict, because php-pdo 5.2.3-3 requires php-common 5.2.3-3.

php-pdo 5.2.3-4 is available at http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/atomi ... 6_64/RPMS/ though, so I don't understand why yum is not picking that one.

I'd try downloading the php packages from http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/atomi ... 6_64/RPMS/ to a local directory and then try a yum localinstall php*.rpm or something.

Yeah its that /etc/php.ini is in the php package on one side, and php-common on the other. Whats going on here is you're only seeing part of the error message.

I then went through and removed each of these packages with the following:

At last I reinstalled all the packages above with: (sqlite2 didn't exist in 5.2.3)

I went to the directory at /etc/php.d

Modified the file ioncube-loader.ini

Changed the line from:
zend_extension=/opt/php51/lib64/php5/extensions/php_ioncube_loader_lin_5.0_x86_64.so

to
zend_extension=/opt/php52/lib/php/modules/ioncube_loader_lin_5.2_x86_64.so


I then did a restart with

/sbin/service httpd restart

Stopping httpd: [ OK ]
Starting httpd: [ OK ]

Followed by:

php -version

PHP 5.2.3 (cli) (built: Aug 27 2007 10:31:11)

Yes, you always need to upgrade you Ioncube Loader version along with your PHP version if you're using Ioncube Loader.

It appears that some PHP code that I wrote that uses the dom doesn't appear to be working now. Not sure what the problem is yet. Here is a sample of the code that doesn't work:

$markerFile = "Test.xml";
$dom = new DOMDocument('1.0', 'utf-8');
$dom->formatOutput = true;
$node = $dom->createElement("markers");
$parnode = $dom->appendChild($node);
$dom->save($markerFile);

Any thoughts?

The PHP code seems to run, but I should note that the file Test.xml is not being created. It could be that something isn't set correctly in the php.ini.

Receiving this error. I did php -info and it says safe mode is off.

The error says the script is owned by uid 0, which is root. I'd change this to match the domain user. Did you disable safe_mode for this through Plesk? Did you check phpinfo() in the dir this script is running (safe_mode is not necessarily the same for every vhost or or even directory)?

The httpdocs directory . was owned by ftpadmin, psaserv.

The httpdocs .. is owned by root, root.

My php files were all root, root.

The xml files that get created through the xml.php (dom) are apache, apache.

This was all working before I did the upgrade of php.

To fix it all I did a chown ftpadmin:psaserv *.php. Basically, I gave all the php files the same ownership as the directory.

Not sure what this means securitywise or if this is a no-no...not sure ??

Any changes to my php.ini file that I should make to secure the site??
