Centos, 1and1 and lilo hanging

Unread post by paul_xedos »

Hi,
I'm not sure if the aooiinstaller.sh script will work any more with the current FC6 image supplied by 1and1. It seems that as delivered in FC6, either 64 bit or 32 bit ( I've tried both) typing lilo at the command line never returns the prompt. lilo -v shows that it is hanging as follows

Code: Select all

[root@s15243763 ~]# lilo -v
LILO version 22.3.4, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner Almesberger
Development beyond version 21 Copyright (C) 1999-2002 John Coffman
Released 01-Nov-2002 and compiled at 23:55:07 on Mar 22 2005.

Reading boot sector from /dev/sda
I believe this is due to a change in the FC6 image supplied by 1and1 and as such the script will never complete. Initially I thought this was due to 1and1 choosing grub as the preferred boot loader but having booted via the console and watching the boot sequence it seems lilo is still being used

Any suggestions on how to get round this would be welcomed

Thanks
Paul

hi, i run into similar problems... lilo on fc6 looks broken.
is this a new box? so reimage to another one (suse10 in my case) then run the installer again.

Hi yes, its a recent install - today in fact, but I know the problem has occurred in the last 2 weeks as prior to that it was working. I'll give the Suse image a try and report back as to whether it works

Thanks
Paul

I got ahold of 1and1, they'll be looking into what broke lilo in their latest fc6 image. It works in SuSE if you have yum installed "yast -i yum"

This problem has now been fixed by 1and1 and I can confirm that FC6-64 is able to run lilo

Did you have to reimage to get the fix?
