All,

swsoft is gone, its no more. If you visit the forums or home mpage your kicked over to http://www.parallels.com

Hmmm this is either good news or bad news.

(optimistic hat on) Maybe things will improve and better support and updates and fix these blased outstanding bugs like the watchdog bug...

(optimistic hat off and now pessimistic hat on) Maybe all these rumours about micro$oft getting involved and their focus is really pushing towards m$

Scott - Realistically say worst case that parallels did start to go long term way side away from linux, is it possible that atomicorp could come out with a server solution? I am sure there would be many takers... I for one would not just run to cpanel, unless atomicorp moved to a cpanel packages.

Just throwing in my 'what if' worst case....

Id say this name change has more to do with vmware than anything else. I wouldn't worry too much about linux falling off the radar, the vast majority of senior advisor's and managers at the company are hardcore linux/freebsd/OSX hackers.

I doubt I would ever lead a control panel team here, but I'm actively involved in a lot of open source projects that directly apply to improving hosting environments. There are a lot of linux projects out there that I see a really big business opportunity for hosters that you're just not going to get on windows, stuff like Alfresco, SugarCRM, Asterisk, and Zenoss just to name a few.

My advice is to get involved in the open source side if you want to see things improve. You don't have to be a coder, we're just as in need of QA, documentation, graphics (oh my do we need help with this) as we do folks that can code in C or Python. On that front we've got an irc channel, #plesk on irc.freenode.net, where we've been tossing around ideas.

This appears to mostly be a marketing move on the part of SWsoft to more properly adjust their product labeling to compete with VMware.
