Its well known how Parallels has in its abilities to even destroy the best mail server in the world that being postfix.
And now 2 years after the initial release of postfix in Plesk we have another problem.
Plesk + greylisting doesn't allow authenticating users to send their emails ! ! ! At least not before 10 minutes !
Offcourse parallels went on forward and dispatched to the crowd a patch ... -> http://kb.parallels.com/en/8608
But offcourse... Don't try to apply the patch because then you will have a new much much worse problem from the past ! queue write errors ! ! !
So. The email problems with users on the plesk server has no end. And by time its getting bigger and I don't what to tell clients any more.
And I wonder ...
1. Will they ever fix postfix implementation on plesk ? They've "been fixing" it 2 years now and still it actually DOESN'T work !
I mean come on !!!!!!!!!!!
2. I am seriously considering to switching back to qmail ... Because honestly I am bored with it.
a. Is qmail secure and reliable ?
b. Does qmail actually work fully with greylisting etc ? Or will I be having other kinds of errors and problems ?
c. How should I switch from postfix to qmail ? Becasue honestly I don't trust parallels documentation any more. Has anyone tried it ? I also read from people who did this that it caused them tons of problems and parallels admits it in the forums as well.
Thank you all very much !

2a. I am using it on two production servers and it's rock solid in my opinion.
2b. Yes. I am using spamdyke and haggybear spamdyke control panel and it works great.

I was wondering ... If I make the change with the autoinstaller there won't be any problems ? I read in a few posts about thousands of emails after the switch.
I wish Scott or mike could post a reply on this issue.

Re: plesk 9.5.2 - postfix - greylisting
You can use the plesk shipped greylisting, but spamdyke is far better than that (imho). I'm using qmail with spamdyke too and it is really great. Why can't you use greylisting with qmail ?
I can't tell about the autoinstaller. I always use yum. If you want to switch that way you would have to "update" and exclude one package.I was wondering ... If I make the change with the autoinstaller there won't be any problems ? I read in a few posts about thousands of emails after the switch.
My plesk.repo file contains this:
Code: Select all
#exclude=psa-mail-qc-driver*
exclude=psa-mail-pc-driver*
The thousands of emails are based from a scenario with bouncing bounced messages that bounce till eternity. I can't say 100% for sure when this happened but it should not show up on Plesk 9.5.2.
In my opinion it was fixed in 9.5.0:
15. [-] If, in Parallels Plesk Panel, there is a domain with the same name as server's hostname, then a message sent to postmaster@$HOSTNAME is bounced back issue is resolved.
18. [-] After upgrade, var/qmail/control/me file contained only the hostname issue is resolved.

We use qmail on all Plesk servers. It's rock solid. Never bothered to try Postfix with Plesk, because of all the problem stories.
You can also try the qgreylist in atomic if you want greylisting. I also saw a post on jgreylist being added to the repo, that might be a better choice, but I haven't read up on it and I haven't tried it yet.

Switched to Qmail !
Up to now everything seems to be fine. Lets hope that it keeps that way.
Now clamav by default will be scanning incoming mail messages ?

Only if you installed qmail-scanner or some other tool which plugs in ClamAV into your mail handling.nobody wrote:Switched to Qmail !
