Ok. I am missing the apache mod_ssl.so under /etc/httpd/modules directory.
I tried copying it from another server but this didn't solve my problem.
I also found out that distcache was missing so I installed it.
On this box I have openssl since I managed to create a ssl cert.
I tried to leave as many packages out when I was installing the box.
I tried twice reinstalling apache through yum but the problem remains. Generally apache is comming up with some weird errors I have never come across and there doesn't seem to be a straightforward solution on the net. Does anyone have any idea what can possibly be missing ? This would have been a true saver !

Re: missing apache mod_ssl.so
Ahhhh .... mod_ssl wasn't installed ... and it wouldn't show up using yum list *ssl* ...
A simple yum instal mod_ssl would do the job if anyone else comes across that issue... !
